Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the latest version of the Internet Protocol (IP), the communications protocol that provides an identification and location system for computers on networks and routes traffic across the Internet. (from wikipedia.org).
IPv6 is intended to replace IPv4. For all SIP devices, they will be required to fit IPv6 requirements and standards. miniSIPServer V16 or abover can support SIP over IPv6 and it is very easy to deploy miniSIPServer in following network scenarios:
When miniSIPServer is deloyed in IPv4 and IPv6 dual-stack network, it is able to bridge IPv4 network and IPv6 network. That means other SIP devices, such as SIP phones, can be IPv4-only or IPv6-only.
By default, miniSIPServer will detect IPv4 and IPv6 automatically, so you almost need configure nothing to make MSS work for these networks. Of course, you can configure MSS with your own special requirements.
In MSS main window, please click menu 'Data / System / SIP', then we can update local IPv6 address as wish as we want. Please refer to following figure.
We can configure IPv6 address or domain directly to work with SIP devices or servers deployed in IPv6 network.
It is same as external line, we need configure IPv6 address or domain to work with SIP servers deployed in IPv6 network.
There are lots of SIP phones or clients can support IPv6, but we cannot find a well-done SIP softphone in Windows system, so we upgrade miniSIPPhone to V4 to support IPv6 together.
In miniSIPPhone, it is very easy to work over IPv6 too. If we configure "server address" with IPv6 address, miniSIPPhone will migrate to IPv6 stack automatically.
